It is a curious thing, Harry, but perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it. Those who, like you, have leadership thrust upon them, and take up the mantle because they must, and find to their own surprise that they wear it well

Harry Potter and the Test of time

The Harry Potter series are, undoubtedly, very popular books for this generation. It has fascinated, and still does, millions of fans worldwide. Out of these millions, more than half were (and are) only kids when they started reading, hence growing with Harry, creating an eternal bond of friendship and understanding. Additionally, some of these millions of readers are parents reading to their small children, seeding in them the love of reading. Harry Potter has marked its place in the top favorite reading choices of children, teenagers, and adults all over the world. Its increasing popularity has made the book very successful. However, does being popular and successful mean that it’s a “Classic” and will stand the test of time?

Book Review: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince # 2

Review by Bec

This book opens with a question, just who is the Half Blood Prince? The answer is one that comes much later in the books and for those who haven’t read them, it may not be any of the obvious suspects. It is also the title reference that takes the longest time to be answered, with most others being answered somewhere among the first few chapters, if not the first half of the book. Keep reading, and all will be revealed. Rowling does not answer the question too early, but gives enough hints that, on a reread, you almost hit yourself for missing them

Book Review: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

By Ciel

As we move down the road on the Harry Potter adventure, we’ve literally seen how Harry and his surroundings have evolved; embodying a darker tone than its previous books, embracing more mature themes such as death. The books leading towards the grand finale left me gaping and craving for the resolution of this epic adventure. As you might have appreciated, Rowling’s writing seems to grow with the series. In the beginning, it was simple, childish, and easy-to-read, and now it’s the opposite, thus, making it more accessible to a much larger audience of varying ages. Her characters too, have acquired a voice of their own, instead of being flat and stereotypical (as seen during the first books).

Book Review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix #4

By Ciel

This is easily one of my favorite books in the entire series. Some serious character development and insights are revealed to us. The plot is shaped by the characters, and although it isn’t as important as the characters themselves (at least for this book), it is still interesting and well-paced, with minor plot inconsistencies. This book is definitely stronger in character development than plot. After carefully and busily detailing her world-building during the first books, she can now concentrate on shaping and refining her characters.

Book Review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix #2

Review by Charlotte

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’, the fifth installment in Harry Potter series, had readers waiting for three years before it was released to the excitement of children and adults alike. But did it live up to expectations?

After the revelations of the previous book, Harry has to fight against the Ministry of Magic to make them believe that he isn’t the liar they believe him to be. He is also put under scrutiny after he is accused of using underage magic in order to fight off a dementor that attacks him and his cousin, Dudley. There is also trouble at Hogwarts with the arrival of Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and Ministry official, Professor Umbridge, who doesn’t seem interested in teaching any of the practical side to defensive magic.
